Post Published

Overview

The Post Published Trigger in Groundhogg initiates actions when a post or custom post type is published on your WordPress site. This trigger is ideal for automating marketing tasks, such as sending notifications or updating contact records, based on new content being made available. A flow template named “Blog Post Published” is provided as an example.

Post Published
Extension Required!

The Post Published Trigger is available with the Advanced Features addon. It can be purchased separately or as part of the Agency, Pro or Plus Plans.

When to Use

Use the Post Published Trigger to:

  • Automate follow-up actions, such as applying tags or sending targeted emails, when new content is live.
  • Notify subscribers about new blog posts, products, or other content.
  • Add contacts to a flow when specific types of content (e.g., posts, pages, or custom post types) are published.
  • Segment contacts based on post categories or tags.

How It Works

When a post or custom post type is published, the trigger evaluates the post type, categories, and tags you specify. If the conditions match, it adds designated contacts (e.g., all marketable contacts or a saved search) to the flow. You can track conversions for funnel reporting and add notes for reference. The trigger is configured within a flow, and actions like sending emails or applying tags can follow it.

Setup Instructions

  1. Add the Trigger to Your Flow:
  2. Configure Settings:
    • Post Type: Select the post type to monitor (e.g., Posts, Pages, or a Custom Post Type).
    • Categories: Specify categories (or select “Any” to include all).
    • Tags: Specify tags (or select “Any” to include all).
    • Contacts: Choose which contacts to add to the flow (e.g., All Marketable Contacts or a saved search).
  3. Save Settings

Example Use Case

A fitness blog publishes weekly workout routines. Using the Post Published Trigger, the blog owner sets up a flow to detect when a new post in the “Workouts” category is published. The trigger adds all marketable contacts to the flow, which then sends an email announcing the new routine and applies a “Workout Enthusiast” tag. This automation keeps subscribers engaged and segments them for future campaigns.

FAQs / Troubleshooting

Q: Can I trigger actions for specific post categories only?
A: Yes, you can specify categories in the trigger settings to limit actions to posts in those categories.

Q: What happens if no contacts are added to the flow?
A: If no contacts match the criteria (e.g., no marketable contacts), the flow will not proceed. Ensure your contact selection (e.g., All Marketable Contacts) is appropriate.

Q: Does this trigger work with custom post types?
A: Yes, the trigger supports custom post types. Select the desired post type in the settings.

Q: Why isn’t the trigger firing?
A: Verify that the post type, categories, and tags match the published post. Also, ensure the flow is active and contacts are correctly configured.

Q: Can I track conversions with this trigger?
A: Yes, enable conversion tracking in the settings to monitor performance in funnel reports.
